Terms & conditions of hire
A plain-English summary of how our hires work. A signed copy is provided with your hire contract.
1. Hire agreement
These conditions apply to all plant hired from iDrive Plant Ltd. Placing an order confirms acceptance of them. Hire is on a self-drive basis unless agreed otherwise in writing.
2. Hire period and rates
A day's hire is based on up to 8 hours of use in a 24 hour period; a week is 5 working days. Hire begins when plant leaves our yard and ends when it is collected or returned. Rates exclude VAT unless stated.
3. Delivery and collection
Delivery and collection charges are quoted per round trip. The hirer must provide safe, firm and clear access. Wasted journeys caused by unsuitable access or nobody being on site are chargeable.
4. Hirer responsibilities
The hirer must ensure operators are competent and adequately instructed, use plant only for its intended purpose, keep it within the agreed site, carry out daily checks of fluids and tracks, and mark and avoid underground and overhead services.
5. Insurance and risk
Risk in the plant passes to the hirer on delivery and remains with the hirer until collection. The hirer must insure the plant for its full replacement value against loss, theft and damage, and hold public liability cover. Evidence of cover may be requested.
6. Damage, loss and theft
The hirer is liable for repair or replacement costs arising from damage, loss or theft during hire, together with hire charges for the period the plant is unavailable. Theft must be reported to the police and to us immediately.
7. Fuel, fluids and cleaning
Plant is supplied fuelled and clean. It should be returned the same way. Refuelling and reasonable cleaning costs will otherwise be charged. Incorrect fuelling (for example petrol in a diesel engine) is chargeable in full.
8. Breakdowns and maintenance
Genuine mechanical breakdowns should be reported immediately and will be repaired at our cost, with hire time credited for the period the plant is unusable. Breakdowns caused by misuse, neglect or operator error are chargeable to the hirer.
9. Cancellations
Bookings cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice, or after plant has been loaded for delivery, may incur a charge covering transport and lost hire.
10. Payment
New account customers pay in advance. Approved accounts are strictly 30 days from invoice date. Overdue accounts may be charged statutory interest and hire may be suspended.
11. Termination
We may terminate a hire and recover the plant where terms are breached, payment is overdue, or the plant is being used unsafely.
12. Governing law
These conditions are governed by the law of England and Wales.
